Jems was built on the desire to create something for everyone, normalize sex and condom use, and disrupt a toxic industry. In April 2021, longtime friends Whitney and Yasemin co-founded Jems after they went out looking for a product they assumed existed but didn't.
While looking for contraception options between pregnancies, Yasemin and Whitney noticed a void in the condom aisle—traditional condom packaging reflects an outdated notion of sexuality; from unappealing aesthetics to messaging that speaks primarily to specific gender and sexual stereotypes, condoms lack thoughtfulness to such a varied audience.
As conscious consumers, they also noticed the lack of clean, transparent ingredients. With a passion for design that supports a diversity of voices, they created Jems—a truly simple, non-toxic condom for all. The hope is that by redesigning the packaging and rethinking how we speak about condoms and their uses, we can bring about meaningful change.
